The Mother Code tells the story of a young, divorced woman who finds Jesus and computer programming in the 1980s, bringing her young son along for the ride. The play explores the conflicts between logic and faith and the often complicated relationships between mothers and sons and the clashes between what we know and what we believe.
Award-winning playwright Joe Hutcheson (Miss Magnolia Beaumont Goes to Provincetown) brings his new play The Mother Code to River Stage alongside Cheryl King in this readers theatre-style workshop performance directed by Brian Rickel, Dean of Arts, Media, and Entertainment at Cosumnes River College.
Hutcheson and King spent many years producing theatre together in New York City at Stage Left Studio, including curating the Left-Out Festival celebrating new work by LGBTQ+ artists. Rickel and Hutcheson met in the Theatre Department at American River College in 1994 and have been friends ever since the first day of rehearsal.
