Disability Services & Programs for Students (DSPS)

In accordance with current Federal and State Law, each student with a disability is afforded an equal opportunity to participate in the mainstream of the college district’s programs, activities, and classes. The DSPS office is committed to assisting students with disabilities in achieving individual educational goals by providing the services and programs needed to participate in the regular college classroom. The accommodations and services outlined are designed to allow equal access to the campus and education.

Academic Accommodations

Accommodations are individually determined for students with disabilities according to the functional limitations of the specific disability. Academic accommodations for disabilities are not special privileges—they are an individual's right under the law. Accommodations may include:

  • Testing accommodations, including an extension of time, distraction-reduced testing, use of a calculator, spell checker, computer, or modification of the test response format.
  • The use of equipment and materials such as an audio recorder, calculator, electronic text, or spell checker in the classroom and in completing class assignments.
  • The use of personnel such as sign language interpreters, note-takers (while attending class), and readers and scribes for test situations.
  • Alternate print formats, including electronic text, books on compact disc or MP3, or large print materials and braille. Students who require alternate formats of college publications and resources should check with DSPS. These are obtained in the timeliest manner possible.

Support Services

Folsom Lake College also provides a variety of support services to students with disabilities. These include counseling and disability management assistance, alternate media instruction, priority registration, study strategy consultation, and orientations to the campus.

Eligibility Criteria

To be served by DSPS, the student must have a verified disability which results in an educational limitation that inhibits the student’s ability to participate in the general educational program of the college without additional specialized services

Students eligible to receive reasonable accommodations can apply for services by completing this application.
