Many commentators are now suggesting that writers outsource their routine work to generative AI tools like ChatGPT, leaving more space for the human writer to engage in the critical, creative components of writing. What this means for instructors of writing is only beginning to be addressed. This presentation will detail the ethical issues of outsourcing processes such as source finding and stylistic editing, and it will also overview ways in which writing instruction can foster writers’ creative, innovative critical thinking.
