Home Collegewide Resources DSPS Faculty and Staff Rights

Faculty and staff have the right:

  1. To set academic standards
  2. To evaluate the student based on the standards of the class and to grade accordingly
  3. To advise the student to contact DSPS if the student requests an accommodation and the instructor has not received written notification from the DSPS office
  4. To raise appropriate questions about:
    1. Whether an accommodation would result in a fundamental alteration of the academic program or course in question; and,
    2. Whether they are being asked to assist with a personal need (a need which does not arise as part of the educational process)

Faculty/staff are not allowed independent discretion to refuse to put an approved academic adjustment in place, nor modify the accommodation unless a formal appeal process is conducted.
